Business Education for Photographers

URL Structure

URLs describe a site or page to visitors and search engines. Keeping them relevant, compelling, and accurate is the key to ranking well.

Time: 1 hour

Ingredients:

  • Permalinks
  • Page and post names

Directions:

Use hyphens to separate keywords in the URL.

Avoid stuffing the same keywords in every URL, such as /best-sacramento-photographer and/best-photographer-in-sacramento.

Refer to these suggested URLs for common page types:

  • About Page /about-zach-prez/
  • Reviews Page /reviews/
  • Contact Page /contact/
  • Wedding Gallery /sacramento-wedding-photo-gallery/
  • Blog /blog/
  • Blog Post (gallery) /blog/top-10-hotel-wedding-photos/
  • Blog Post (session) /blog/beautiful-fall-courtyard-wedding-ritz/

WordPress users should set the default URL structure (known as Permalinks) to avoid URLs like this: www.zachprez.com/?page=123. Navigate to Settings > Permalinks and choose a setting that places keywords in the URL (Day and Name, Month and Name, Post Name, or Custom Structure).
