A gallery can be any collection of photos. It might be a slideshow set to music, a SmugMug image repository, or a blog post.
Time: 1 hour per gallery
Create a unique gallery for each topic you want to rank. Consider:
- Niches – wedding, newborn
- Styles – birthdays, ballroom receptions, vintage
- Locations – city, high school, wedding venue
Name the gallery with a proper title and description
Top 20 Christmas Photos of Sacramento Families

Add as much text as you can to the gallery page. If your gallery system doesn’t display text, I strongly recommend moving to a blog post format for your galleries.
Upload your best photos using keyword-rich filenames (see Image Optimization recipe).
Add captions or image descriptions for each photo if they display visibly on the page.
Add a few relevant keyword tags (relevant for SmugMug and Flickr, but not blogs). Example: Christmas, family, sweaters, red, snow, photo booth, Santa hat.
Link to your gallery pages from other websites.
Consider moving traditional galleries to a blog post format that’s search, social and mobile friendly. Users can see more photos at a glance without clicking or waiting.
